What is one of your key items for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season?

Pan Am is excited to offer a new lineup for 2012 called the PAA. This collection harkens back to a simpler time in design with a canvas construction coupled with our vintage PAA logo. There is this killer added splash of color in the form of a luggage tag print liner that really sets this collection off. To say we are excited would be an understatement!

Where do you draw inspiration from?

For inspiration for the PAA collection, we looked to our archives and from there we simplified the design and upped the innovation. These are essentially simple vintage inspired bags with user-friendly upgrades. We actually looked back to a different era to capture the best of simplicity.

How do you start the design process when creating a new collection?

We usually start with a color palette and a shape for the new collection. We then build on that for the innovation and overall finish.

What do you think will draw retailers to your collection this upcoming season?

We expect retailers to continue with the positive response they have had with us over the last few seasons and be energized from having a new collection from a trusted manufacturer and brand. The colors of the collection are bold and the simple lines of the bags are refreshing. This collection speaks to both architects and designers, as well as seasoned travelers, and is gender neutral.

If you could dress a celebrity who you feel fits your product image, who would it be and why?

We have been lucky to have a great celebrity following so singling out a celebrity may cause a bit of a headache down the line, but here goes – Ryan Gosling. He has a good sense of adult fashion and the ability to dress like a big boy when it counts.

What is your personal fashion philosophy?

My personal fashion philosophy is based on simplicity and function; quality shoes, cheap plain t-shirts, good jeans, and the occasional sport coat. That pretty much covers me year round.

What three items are essential to you during market week?

My three essential items during market week are as simple as comfortable shoes, a disposable toothbrush, and a cell phone charger.
