What is one of your key items for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season?
A key item for the upcoming market is the long clutch (style LC). This is my best-selling style and the most popular color is the black and white stripe. A stripe is so suiting for Spring/Summer and this clutch is the perfect bag for a day or evening out.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Inspiration comes from metropolitan cities and their many demographics. Being able to create a bag that the “uptown” and “downtown” women would both want to own is very inspiring.
How do you start the design process when creating a new collection?
The design process begins with the question, “What is missing?,” i.e. which shape, color, and texture is not represented in the market.
What do you think will draw retailers to your collection this upcoming season?
Retailers will be drawn to the colors and textures. This collection is meant to be vibrant in every sense of the word. The product is so eye-catching and visually stimulating that it’s hard to walk by and not take interest. Every retailer wants an item they can put in their window to draw consumers in or at least make them stop.
If you could dress a celebrity who you feel fits your product image, who would it be and why?
I would choose Rihanna because she is such a fashion chameleon. She has the ability to pull off a tailored suit and a funky grunge ensemble all in the same day; I feel that I can accessorize her with a bag for each one of those outfits.
What is your personal fashion philosophy?
Accessories are the best way to change the look and feel of an outfit, not to mention the most economical. They allow one to step out of their comfort zone and try something new or trendy without breaking the bank. The more accessories to choose from, the better.
What three items are essential to you during market week?
Coffee is my #1 essential item during market week because I am one of those people who needs a little jump start in the morning. Next would be my Blackberry because I am always grinding away and lastly, but very importantly, is good company. There is nothing better than going to a fabulous dinner with fabulous people after a long day at market.
