President/Designer – Carolina Amato
What is one of your key items this upcoming Holiday/Resort 11-12 season?
We are very excited about our dog walker glove and matching doggy sweater (for the dog of course). We love the idea of walking your dog and matching with him/her. We have three patterns: a heart, a smiley face and a NYC. We have received a tremendous response to this very new concept because of its uniqueness for holiday gift giving.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Creative ideas can come from anywhere and at anytime. My interests range from antiques to travel to languages to poetry to art to fauna and flora to cooking to gardening to beach combing, and so on. I am never bored and I draw creative ideas from all my interests, cook them up, and out come the ideas.
What are some of your favorite trends this season and have you incorporated any of them into your designs?
When designing a collection I pay most attention to color forecasts for the season. While designing accessories, it’s very important that the colors work back to the clothing. The colors are neutrals with shots of rich bright colors. For trends, fingerless gloves and texting gloves are very important and we have lots of those to choose from.
What will draw retailers to your collection this upcoming season?
We hope that it will be the beauty, quality and uniqueness of our product that will draw the retailers.
What direction do you see the accessories industry moving in?
There is so much product in the market that accessories have to speak to the customer to be considered really great and special. Before something makes it into our final collection, we ask: “Is this really special?” If the answer is yes, it goes on.
If you could dress a celebrity who you feel fits your product image, who would it be and why?
I really prefer the challenge of enriching the look of my everyday customers and making their personal style more edgy and fun.
What are three things you can’t live without?
As far as life is concerned: sun, fun, and the Atlantic Ocean. As far as my wardrobe is concerned: my Hermes belt, my Coach sandals and my Carolina Amato fingerless leather and cashmere gloves.
