What is one of your key items for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season?

Our upcoming collection features handmade leather sandals with a casual edge. My first creative outlet was in shoemaking, a craft I learned from my Dad. Our company began when I started making jewelry from the left over scrap leather from sandals. Jewelry has been our focus for the last 7 years, so I am excited to be making sandals again. It’s as though our journey has come full circle.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Living in Bali provides me with an abundance of inspiration. I draw my inspiration from the textures and movement in nature such as rivers, rocks, shells, branches, fruits, plants or anything that sparks my interest at that moment. I’m also influenced by the many diverse people and cultures here in Bali.

How do you start the design process when creating a new collection?

I always start with recycled materials…whatever scraps I find around me in my workshop. I then combine them and try to create something feminine that also retains and showcases the natural imperfections of the materials I’m working with.

What do you think will draw retailers to your collection this upcoming season?

While all of our accessories are full of rich textures, shapes and colors, our bracelets and belts are always a draw so we’ve just expanded both collections.

If you could dress a celebrity who you feel fits your product image, who would it be and why?

If it were a man, Johhny Depp because he’s mysterious. He’s appealing because of the way he carries himself and he’d wear a rugged leather belt with a refined suit. If it were a woman, Kate Moss because she’s feminine but edgy. They both have such diverse looks but their personal charisma always comes through no matter what they wear.

What is your personal fashion philosophy?

I really believe the greatest accessory is a passion for life.  A more traditional answer would be simple casual but with a distinct edge.

What three items are essential to you during market week?

Three things that are essential to me during market week are a calm disposition, a stand out leather belt and my favorite jeans.
