What is one of your key items for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season?

The collection of ballet flats is key for this upcoming Spring/Summer season. These light and comfortable flats are skillfully made in Brazil using genuine leather or skin and have a prim, sophisticated quality. Padded leather soles and a wear-with-anything color palette ensure that these flats become a go-to in footwear.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

The collection is inspired by nature in my native country of Brazil – colorful gardens, tropical beaches and lush jungles.

How do you start the design process when creating a new collection?

The design process is very organic and happens over time. I collect things throughout my travels such as a flower in Hawaii, a photograph taken in French Polynesia, or sketches I’ve done in Brazil. I appreciate the simplicity and beauty of my surroundings, yet can find the complexity in them, which helps me to create.

What do you think will draw retailers to your collection this upcoming season?

The collection of leather cuffs is sure to draw retailers because they are stylish and expressive, retail at a great price and are popular among fashion editors (Vogue, WWD, Teen Vogue, Lucky…just to name a few). They are available in neutral and bright colors with embossed skins (croc, snake, ostrich) or even with metallic beadwork making them a little punk.

If you could dress a celebrity who you feel fits your product image, who would it be and why?

Sofia Vergara is a great representation of the brand. She is sexy, exotic, playful, not taken too seriously, and is able to find the humor in things.

What is your personal fashion philosophy?

I don’t necessarily have a personal fashion philosophy. I wear and create things I like and I don’t follow trends. I gravitate towards the classics but I love color.

What three items are essential to you during market week?

A pair of my ballet flats, my iPhone, and a strong cup of coffee!
