What’s your favorite part about conceptualizing a new design?
I love most everything about conceptualizing a new design! Starting with brainstorming ideas for my scarves, working directly with the textiles I’ll use, and refining an idea until it’s ready to be made. I really enjoy the process of the design and seeing my products come to life.
From where do you draw inspiration?
I find traveling has influenced my work extensively. Since I am such a visual person, traveling abroad and experiencing colorful landscapes and far-off locales has been amazing. Exploring has also taught me that this same astonishing beauty can be found in your own backyard. Photography and black-and-white films are also places where I draw inspiration. The idea that you can resonate with an audience using such simplicity and nostalgia is fascinating to me and something I try to incorporate into my own work.
How do you personally stay up-to-date with fashion?
I study trend forecasts as much as possible and I’m a longtime subscriber of WWD.
What do you think will draw retailers to your collection this upcoming season?
I’m not shy about using color. I love color! I do have my fair share of monotone days and there are times when neutrals are more appropriate, but I think a colorful piece of jewelry or a scarf can be a total conversation starter.
Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Modern women with an edge such as Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman. Also, beautiful places; I’ve traveled a lot but I have to say that San Francisco remains the most influential city for me. It’s one of those unique cities that’s buzzing with urban energy but also has spaces of spectacular natural beauty. I feel as if these are the things that really define what Jitni is today.
