Describe your Fall/Winter 2013 collection.

You can be sure that it will be full of sparkle with a nod to some of the season’s most anticipated hues as well as some big statement pieces like jeweled bobby pins and metallic florals. We will certainly have some “anything but basic” basics and are adding some great new designs and fabrications to our super popular iPhone cases.

 

What’s one staple accessory that you think every woman should own?

I think every woman should have at least one accessory that is totally out of her comfort zone. Something bold and colorful that makes her happy every time she puts it on; something that dresses up every outfit and calls out, “Look at me, I’m awesome!” Heck, she doesn’t even have to wear it but just knowing it’s there might be enough of a dream.

 

How do you personally stay up-to-date with fashion?

There is certainly a large amount of “looking back, to look forward.” Vintage fashion has always been a huge inspiration to me and to the ban.do design process. As much as I love to spend a Saturday getting lost on Pinterest, I’m still a huge fan of casually flipping through the pages of fashion magazines (Lula is the best!), pulling out my favorite spreads and popping them on my inspiration wall.

 

Do you try to keep with the trends or create your own?

We certainly don’t turn a blind eye to the trends, but I think it would be criminal for a designer to not want to create their own trends. We have always happily marched to the beat of our own drum here at ban.do and I have to guess that attribute has been a huge contributor to our success.

 

What is your brand doing to address the growing importance of social media and how has it impacted your business?

We started as an eCommerce brand four and a half years ago, so we were doing social media before we even knew what social media was. We continue to embrace social media every day and are constantly looking for new ways to be innovative with this medium. Whether it’s finding clever ways to get our customer to engage us and visa versa, or inviting new wholesale accounts to participate in social media collaborations, the next great idea is just a click away.

 

What do you consider to be the world’s best fashion city?

We are steadfastly against picking favorites unless we are talking about candy, in which case pop rocks are our favorite. All of that being said, we love Paris and New York and (of course) Los Angeles when it comes to fashion. But we also think that there are hundreds of cities throughout the world that are fashion power houses. Women all over the world are being exposed to fashion of all sorts on a very regular basis and they are constantly finding interesting ways to translate that into their everyday lives.
